I haven't posted any news about the site since the end of March, so I thought I should catch you up:
April saw the usual fixes and updates and improvements, but I had to take some time to prepare for May. As I reported to our patrons, I spent that month traveling with a very special friend with very lovely benefits. ☺️ I monitored the site along the way, but as I said when I got back:
We've reached a point at which all went well without my jumping on to fix something every day! Our site administrators took care of everything, and never had to call me in. All the pre-existing problems are still there, but it was nice to take some time without worrying about what might be wrong now.
So I'm home again, and while I miss my travel buddy like crazy, I'm happy and renewed. I dove back into work on those "pre-existing problems". You'll (fail to) notice some of them in the absence of old annoyances. The two most noticeable changes are:
- We increased the default font size on the site, and added buttons at the top of each page to adjust that size for members who don't know how to adjust it in their browsers. We've worked to be responsive in the 2020s; I hope this addition fills the last gap for anyone still struggling to read comfortably. Let us know if there's still more we can do.
- We fixed broken video handling. (Should it be so hard to maintain ffmpeg on Heroku? We won't make a value judgment. Let's just be glad we got there.) While videos were successfully uploading and playing, we weren't generating thumbnails so they could appear on https://oldergay.men/videos and in the newsletter. They will now; hope you'll review https://oldergay.men/videos, as some delightful moments have been captured there in the meantime. 😉
We'll keep on with the problems we know, and keep getting past them to everything OlderGay.Men should be. Thanks as ever for your patience and support. 🙂
